This is the page for Admins to carefully read the guidelines about protected pages. Note that this privilege should not be used unless you have a stated reason of why you need to.

[edit] Good reasons for protecting pages

• If page is vital to the wiki and cannot afford to be hit by vandals (i.e. the main page)
• If a certain page is under a major troll attack.
• If a sysop needs or wants his userpage protected.

[edit] Bad reasons for protecting a page

• If page is useless. If a page is useless, it needs to be deleted.
• If a userpage of a regular user has been frequently vandalized. If you do so, the user will not be able to edit his page, as sysops are the only users able to edit protected pages.

Please do not confuse this with locking. Locking is only used in extreme circumstances, and is only available to be used by developers.
